The Sauhügel is 721.7  m above sea level. NHN high mountain of the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the district of Sonneberg , Thuringia ( Germany ).

It lies west of Lichte and southeast of the Leibis-Lichte dam in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park .

The sow hill is built from slate from the deep Silurian . The key fossil is Phycodes circinatum , an Ichnofossil . The phycode slate of the sow hill has a high iron content.
