The Rauhhügel is a survey with a height of 802  m above sea level. NHN north of Schmiedefeld in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district . On the ridge there is a transmitter mast and the "Leipziger Turm", an observation tower with an excursion restaurant.

The rough hill is made up of slate from the deep Silurian . The key fossil is Phycodes circinatum , an Ichnofossil . The phycode slate of the rough hill has a high iron content.

Leipzig Tower

The Leipzig tower is 17.5 m high (upper viewing platform 14 m). With clear air and favorable weather conditions, there is a distant view not only of the surrounding mountains of the Thuringian Slate Mountains and the Thuringian Forest , but also of many mountains of the Fichtelgebirge and the Ore Mountains .
