The Hahnberg is one at an average of 686 m above sea level. NHN Höhe slightly hilly plateau of the Thuringian Slate Mountains in the district of Sonneberg , Thuringia ( Germany ).
It is located west of Lichte in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park . Neighboring mountains are the Spitzer Berg ( 790.3 m ), the Rauhhügel ( 801.9 m ) and the Mutzenberg ( 770 m ) in the northeast, the Mittelberg ( 803.6 m ) in the southeast, the Apelsberg ( 780 m ) in the southwest and the Rückersbiel ( 756 m ) in the west.
The Hahnberg is built from slate from the deep Silurian . The key fossil is Phycodes circinatum , an Ichnofossil . The phycode slate of the Hahnberg has a high iron content. The Hahnberg is mainly used as pasture and is partly overgrown by coniferous forest.
