Shania Twain is the debut album by Canadian country singer Shania Twain . It was released on April 20, 1993 by Polygram Records / Mercury Records .
history
The album was recorded in a contemporary country style, but also showed tendencies towards soft rock. It was recorded with Harold Shedd and Norro Wilson . It was released in the US in 1993, but not until about a year later, in the UK in May 1994 . In 2000 it was re-released. In the wake of Twain's successes, the album achieved platinum status in the USA and double platinum in Canada .
criticism
Thom Owens from Allmusic criticized that the songs were "not well structured", they lacked strong melodies. But the album shows Twain's remarkable vocal abilities. The rating was 3 out of 5 stars. Robert Christgau wrote: "God Ain't Gonna Getcha for That".
