Shardé Thomas

Shardé Thomas (* 1990 in Mississippi, state ) is an American musician; she is considered to be one of the last representatives of the Fife and Drum Blues . Thomas is the granddaughter of Othar Turner , from whom she learned traditional music, especially playing Fife.

She made her first appearance with Fife in 1997 at the age of 7 at her grandfather's traditional family picnic. When Othar Turner died in 2003, the then 13-year-old Shardé played at his funeral. She represented her recently deceased grandfather on the album Mississippi to Mali by Corey Harris . Since then Shardé Thomas has been leading her grandfather's “Rising Star Fife and Drum Band” and plays the “Otha Turner Family Picnic”, which still takes place every year. She also appears with the band at festivals.

In 2010 Shardé Thomas released his first own album, What Do I Do? . She has also worked with other musicians, especially Luther Dickinson, on whose albums Rock 'n' Roll Blues (2014) and Blues and Ballads (2016) she can be heard.
