Share ( jap. シェア , Shea ) is a closed source - file sharing program . It is being developed in Japan by an anonymous author who succeeds Winny , whose developer was arrested on May 10, 2004, and relies on a high level of security and anonymity. Share works almost in the same way as Winny, i.e. works with encrypted IP addresses, file names and caches and is also based on the same node architecture as Winny.

functionality

The program exists in two versions: Share EX2 uses TCP and Share NT5 UDP as the network protocol.

The user of Share first defines his downstream and upstream speed (at least 50 KB / s, an average speed for Japanese ISPs ), port and optionally an ID based on an RSA encryption algorithm (here: tripcode ). The ID of the user who is used to distribute the latest versions of Share internally ファイル倉庫NT56s0tGbv.

In the second step, the user defines keywords in the cluster settings, a maximum of five of which can be active at the same time. Active keywords lead to targeted searches by Share among other users with identical active keywords. The sets of users with identical keywords are called a cluster .

The connection with other users leads via nodes (computers that are online and on which Share is running), whose addresses are encrypted, but also spread through them after contacting other nodes. As a result, the node database continues to grow. Lists with encrypted addresses of the nodes are also made available on various private pages.

New files and frequently requested files are automatically loaded into the caches of the various nodes. All files transferred are always divided into several blocks, which are also encrypted by the end user until they are completed. During the transfer, several additional nodes are interposed between the node that offers a file and the node that requests this file.

Share uses an encryption based on RC6 in ECB mode and SHA-1 to keep the identity of the nodes ( IP address ) secret even from the share users themselves. For the normal user, it is not clear to which other IP addresses he is connected, nor which data (apart from the ones offered and requested) he receives from them, sends to them or which are queried by him.

Structure and special features

Share has a decentralized structure through the nodes and therefore cannot simply be switched off. There is no central server with which the network could be switched off, and a failure of individual nodes does not damage the network either.

Share knew a reward system for those who shared a lot of data with other users. The so-called points are stored at the node to which you upload and this information is shared with others. Users with many points have a higher upload priority than those without; If you have many points, the nodes from which data are requested are preferred to those without points. This has not been active for some time, but it can be assumed that it will be reactivated in one of the next builds.
