Sharon Margaret Bowles, Baroness Bowles of Berkhamsted (born June 12, 1953 in Oxford ) is a British patent attorney and politician ( Liberal Democrats ). She was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2014 and has been a member of the House of Lords since 2015 and on the board of the London Stock Exchange since 2014 .

Bowles worked as a patent attorney and earned professional representative status before the European Patent Office . She ran unsuccessfully in the British general election in 1992 and 1997 in the constituency of Aylesbury . In 2004, Bowles replaced Chris Huhne in the European Parliament , who was elected to the House of Commons . In the European elections in 2009 , she managed to move back in. She was elected in the South East England county and was a member of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe . Bowles served as chairman of the until June 30, 2014Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee and thus a member of the Conference of Committee Chairs . In 2014, she left the European Parliament after not running again. On August 15, 2014, she became a board member of the London Stock Exchange . On October 23, 2015, Bowles was named a Life Peer titled Baroness Bowles of Berkhamsted , of Bourne End in the County of Hertfordshire. This also made her a member of the House of Lords .

She is married and has two kids.
