Sharon Garlough Brown

Sharon Garlough Brown (born June 15, 1969 in Arcadia, California ) is an American pastor , speaker and writer.

Live and act

Sharon Garlough Brown graduated from Smith College with a BA in English and Literature . The Princeton Theological Seminary subsequently graduated with a degree for M. Div. There she met her future husband Jack, whom she married two years later. Their joint ministry took them to churches in Scotland (where their only son David was born), Oklahoma, and England. She served as a pastor in West Michigan until 2016. In 2017 she and her husband founded the “Abiding Way Ministries” in Ada Township (Michigan) , where she has been the spiritual director of exercises and retreats ever since .

Even as a little girl, the desire to become a writer awoke in her. She felt shy and introverted. For her, story writing was a way of escaping into imaginary worlds and gaining recognition among her peers or collecting awards from teachers. Her wealth of experience from many years of spiritual courses flows into her books. They are about lamentation and hope, fear and faith, struggle and rest.

Brown is a speaker at events such as the Festival of Faith & Writing and currently lives with her family in West Michigan.

Her fiction series "Sensible Shoes" is a collection of contemporary novels that trace the lives of four women who meet in a spiritual retreat center. They embark on a spiritual journey where they have to pass tests:

  • Hannah, a pastor who doesn't realize how exhausted she is.
  • Meg, a widow haunted by her past.
  • Mara, a woman who has experienced rejection all her life and is now trying to navigate a difficult marriage.
  • Charissa, a hard working PhD student who wants to get things right.

The reader accompanies them on this path, is involved in the most important spiritual practices and finds support for a deeper life with God.
