The Shedhalle Zurich is an art gallery on the grounds of the Rote Fabrik in Zurich .

structure

The Shedhalle Zurich is supported by an association . The board of the association consists of around eight people who, among other things, create the team and work structure and choose the curators , thus laying the foundations for the programmatic orientation. The Shedhalle is funded by the City of Zurich.

history

The Shedhalle Zurich was founded in 1984 as an “action space for young Swiss art” in the Rote Fabrik. In 1987, the initiators split off from the organization of the Rote Fabrik and founded the Shedhalle association as the sponsor of the art institution. After the space was primarily used by independent curators in the first few years of its existence, the basic financial resources agreed in a referendum in December 1987 allowed a permanent curatorial position to be advertised. With the curator Harm Lux, who was hired in 1988, the previous restriction to Swiss art was also abandoned.

In 1994 the program was realigned. Since then, the aim has been to deal with art, taking socio-political issues into account, and to open up interdisciplinary collaboration with other social and scientific organizations at the interface of art, research-based, discursive procedures and political engagement.
