Justin Hoffmann

Justin Hoffmann (* 1955 in Cham (Upper Palatinate) ) is a German curator and has headed the Kunstverein Wolfsburg since 2004 .

Life and education

Hoffmann initially studied art education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1976 to 1981 . This was followed by a degree in modern history, communication studies and art history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After successfully completing his second degree in 1986, he did his doctorate there with Uwe M. Schneede .

In addition to his work as a critic for various art newspapers and magazines such as the Artforum and his curatorial practice in art institutions such as the Shedhalle Zurich , the Kunstraum Munich and the Kunsthalle Wien , Hoffmann took teaching positions and visiting professorships between 1989 and 2004 at the Linz Art University , among others UdK Berlin (formerly HdK Berlin) and the Merz Academy .

In 2004 he took over the management of the Kunstverein Wolfsburg. In the years that followed this takeover, Hoffmann realized several projects, including the so-called "arti", a competition prize especially for Wolfsburg artists, the Science & Art Festival Phenomenale and the CITY GALLERY, an exhibition space in the Alvar-Aalto-Kulturhaus .

He has also been a guest lecturer at the HBK Braunschweig since 2005 .

During his studies in 1980 Justin Hoffmann founded the group FSK together with Thomas Meinecke , Michaela Melián and Wilfried Petzi
