description
The villa was built in 1908 to a design by the Glasgow architect Henry Edward Clifford . It is isolated in a sparsely populated region around three kilometers northeast of Kirkcowan not far from the right bank of the Bladnoch . The style of the Tudor Gothic design is based on contemporary English country villas and is rarely found in south-west Scotland.
The building has a roughly U-shaped floor plan and is constructed asymmetrically. The exposed masonry consists of processed quarry stone , which contrasts the polished natural stone facades on the protruding parts of the building. Natural stone window surrounds the designed mostly with small-scale post grasp lattice windows one. A short front staircase leads to the main portal. This is located on a protruding part of the building with a crenellated parapet. Massive, removed buttresses flank the arched portal . The roofs are covered with red tiles. The interior is decorated with elaborate woodwork. While pine wood was mostly used, one room is designed with mahogany wood. A highlight is the billiard room in a flat wing with its remarkable open fireplace. Around 1990 the villa was divided into several residential units.
