In 2013, 22.87 million passengers used the station served by the Central Line .

history

The station was opened on July 30, 1900. It was initially the western terminus of the Central London Railway (CLR), the predecessor of the Central Line. As usual with the CLR, the station building was designed by Harry Bell Measures . To the north of the station were the railway company's power station and the Wood Lane depot , which was connected to the line by a single-track tunnel. In order to open up the exhibition grounds of the Franco-British Exhibition on Wood Lane, the route there was extended and a loop was built around the depot for this purpose. This extension went into operation on May 14, 1908.

As part of the London Passenger Transport Board's New Works program, escalators were installed between 1935 and 1940 to replace the original elevators . In 1938, the platforms were extended to enable the use of trains with eight instead of the previous seven cars. The station was completely rebuilt as part of the Westfield London urban development project . There were improved transfer options to the bus routes and a little further east the new Shepherd's Bush station on the West London Line . The Shepherd's Bush station was closed from February 2 to October 5, 2008 to replace the over 80-year-old escalators and to replace the old station building with a new one.
