Sherco is a Franco-Spanish motorcycle manufacturer specializing in off-road motorcycles and trial motorcycles . In addition, the company founded by Marc Teissier and Andreu Codina is a producer of Enduro - and Supermoto -Bikes. In German-speaking countries, the company is mainly known for the Dakar Rally .

Company history

The company was founded in 1998 by Marc Teissier and has two production facilities, a factory in Caldes de Montbui, Spain, where the company's trial bikes are made, and a factory in Nîmes , France , where enduro and supermoto Bikes are manufactured.

The name Sherco was formed from the name originally used by the Spanish manufacturer Bultaco and Sherpa due to legal difficulties . The first Sherco motorcycle appeared in 1999, a two-stroke motorcycle with a displacement of 272 cc, 20 hp and a dry weight of 70 kg for trials. In 2005 the successful model was supplemented by a four-stroke engine with a displacement of 317 cm³. In the same year a four-stroke enduro with 449 cm³ displacement and electronic injection appeared. In 2007 a special edition was published, the "Cabestany Réplica", based on the Spanish trail world champion Albert Cabestany . In 2009, the Scorpa brand, also a manufacturer of trial motorcycles, went into liquidation. The French brand was incorporated into the Sherco company.

At the Dakar Rally 2009, the company became known to a wider audience through its first appearance in this competition. David Casteu drew attention to the brand by winning the first stage on a Sherco 4.5 at the 2010 Dakar Rally . Also in 2010 he was world champion with Sherco in the 450 cm³ off-road rallies class.

In 2011, Sherco achieved sales of around 11.3 million euros. The company employs 60 people in Spain and produces around 7,000 vehicles annually.
