Shi (Xin)

Empress Shi ( Chinese  史 皇后 , birth name unknown; * around 1; † unknown) was an empress of the Xin dynasty . Her father was officer Shi Chen ( 史 諶 ). She married Emperor Wang Mang in the spring of 23, when his power was already waning. The emperor wanted to prove his confidence by this marriage.

In the fall of 23, the capital Chang'an fell into the hands of insurgent peasants who had joined the Red Eyebrow uprising . Wang Mang fell on the battlefield in front of his palace, Weiyang Castle. The further fate of the Empress Shi is unknown; however, her father was executed by Liu Xiu despite surrendering to him.
