ShimmyMC (civil: Epir Thaci ; formerly just Shimmy ) is a German rapper of Kosovar Albanian descent.

Career

Thaci was born in Germany in 1993 to Kosovar Albanian parents . Since 2010 he has been running a YouTube channel on which he regularly publishes music videos . After the release of his albums Akustische Schokolade (2012) and Akustische Schokolade 2 (2013) , Thaci retired to study business informatics at the OTH Regensburg .

In 2017, Thaci made it into the German and Austrian album charts shortly after its release with his new album "Napoleon" . The German rapper Eko Fresh is represented on this album . Another album called "Shimmy Volume 1" was released on March 30, 2018. Instrumental or live versions of his old songs as well as new and newly sampled songs can be heard on this.

Since 2019 he has been producing a podcast called MysteryCast together with YouTuber Jarow , which appears regularly on Spotify , Deezer and Apple Music . There they talk about a criminal case, mostly prepared by Julian. Initially, the format almost exclusively dealt with unsolved criminal cases, but that changed over time. The podcast was formerly on the profiles of Jarow. It now has its own profile. MysteryCast is also represented on Instagram .

style

Characteristic of ShimmyMC's rap style is the so-called double time , which finds its way into almost every song, often in the second verse . In terms of content, ShimmyMC's texts can be assigned to the genre “ HipHop ” and the subgenre “ Battlerap ”, in which the aim is to denounce a fictional opponent as eloquently and artfully as possible and to emphasize the dominance of the lyrical self . In some songs ShimmyMC also satirically or critically deals with its own genre of hip-hop, attacking the ostentatious content of so-called "deeper" lyrics or parodying the battlerap per se, as he did in the song "Just let yourself be breathed again" presents. He has increased his doubletime in the songs Doubletime 2011 , Doubletime 2013 and Doubletime 2019 . In Doubletime 2019 he reached a rap speed of 14 syllables per second in the second verse.
