Shirō Yadama ( Japanese 矢 玉 四郎 , Yadama Shirō ; born February 3, 1944 in Beppu , Ōita Prefecture ) is a Japanese children's book author and illustrator.

Life

Yadama graduated from Chiba University with a degree in design and then worked as a mangaka . He published so-called nonsense manga in weekly magazines until he began to write children's literature with Oshiire no Naka no Mikotan . In 1980, Hare Tokidoki Buta was created , which received nine sequels (status: 2014) and was also adapted as an anime film (1988) and a 61-part anime series (1997/8). His children's and picture books are designed as nonsense literature with the aim of stimulating the imagination of his young readers. To do this, he uses a mixed spelling ( 交 ぜ 書 き , maze gaki ), in which kana that are easier to read for children are used instead of kanji .
