ShortNews
ShortNews was a news community . It was founded in 1999 by Andreas Mihalovits and Oliver Stangl, making it the oldest portal of its kind in Germany. ShortNews ceased operations on February 28, 2018. ShortNews was operated by Shortnews GmbH & Co. KG in Regensburg .
principle
ShortNews consisted largely of rephrased summaries of reports from other news sources. Registered users could submit, rate and comment on them. For almost every action, the users were credited with a number of points according to a system that defined the user's rank ( ranking ). Successful, well-read news was rewarded with so-called shorties , which could be converted into prizes and vouchers. The shorties were abolished in June 2016. The platform owed a large part of its success to the news tickers , which could be integrated into every website free of charge.
Cooperation with Stern
The cooperation with Stern , which had existed since 2001, ended on March 1, 2007. Shortly thereafter, Stern started its own project under the name Tausendreporter , which was discontinued in 2009 as part of a relaunch. In the following months there were heated discussions between satisfied and dissatisfied ShortNews members on a thousand reporters and in the ShortNews forums. Shortly after separating from the star, Mihalovits hinted at a later actual opening for blogs as news sources.
