The SHORT SHOTS eV was an existing 2005-2010 initiative to promote young film for culture club atmosphere. The focus of the events was the short film . In addition to the founding city of Berlin, there was a Spanish branch in Madrid.

idea

Young directors and filmmakers should be given the opportunity to present their short films in front of a broad European audience and then to exchange ideas with filmmakers and interested parties in a nice club atmosphere. The aim was to provide young directors with an audience and a stage. The audience should get the chance to get to know the field of short films on an all-round relaxed evening in a club . In addition to the presentation character, communication among filmmakers should be encouraged in order to achieve synergy effects.

history

Founded as a Berlin student initiative in 2005, a branch in Madrid developed in a very short time. The expansion to other European and international locations such as Paris, Rome, Delhi and Caracas was planned but never realized. In the meantime, over 150 short films have been shown to over 3000 viewers in Berlin and Madrid. In cooperation with the Berlin festival britspotting , the Festival de Experiencia Espantapitas, the European film festival NEFF in Vitoria / Spain and MitOst eV, special events and special programs have been organized in the past.

Events

Short film evening

A regular short film evening in the media metropolis of Berlin. At regular intervals, five to seven short films related to a topic such as: B. “Amor and Psyche”, “Modern Times” or the Christmas program “Rohes Fest” are shown. Numerous directors and the film crews were present and answer questions from the moderator and the audience.

Each evening was accompanied by a moderator. He led through the monothematic event, presented the five to seven short films and acted as an interface between the audience and invited filmmakers. Before each film there was a short introduction, after each film there was the chance for an interview with the representatives of the film who were present. In addition to technical issues, the focus was primarily on the entertainment approach. So amusing anecdotes from the shoot and other interesting facts about filmmaking itself should be the focus.

The short film battle

The German short film in international comparison: How do German short films fare on an international level? As part of an exciting “Shortfilm Battle”, there was a competition between three English and three German films in collaboration with britspotting , the motto being: “For life and death”. On April 25, 2007 the second battle took place. This time Spain and Germany faced each other on the subject of deadly sins . The winner was the German contribution "Der Aufreißer" directed by Steffen Weinert with leading actor Steffen Groth ("FC Venus", "Alles auf Zucker").

The gala

The best German short films of the year were presented at an annual gala: the audience chose the best film with the help of applause meters or SHORT SHOTS voting coins. Following the voting, prizes were awarded, in 2006 worth € 25,000.

Moderation

Daniel Boschmann has been a moderator for the initiative since summer 2006. To present the SHORT SHOTS BATTLE, the presenter Claudia Lopez was hired to represent the Spanish films.

Movie lounge

Up-and-coming talent should be supported in establishing contacts with established filmmakers, producers or actors, gaining partners for new projects and developing ideas together. The SHORT SHOTS film lounge was set up for this purpose and takes place regularly after the short film screening. One of the main goals of SHORT SHOTS was to network young filmmakers with one another and to provide them with a platform for communication and cooperation. The SHORT SHOTS lounge following the screening provided the ideal setting for this. However, the exchange took place not only within the film industry, but also between filmmakers and the audience.

Partner and Cooperation

Madrid

In May 2006 the concept was successfully adapted in Madrid. There, SHORT SHOTS has already organized numerous short film evenings at the Goethe-Institut and clubs where German films with Spanish subtitles are shown on a specific topic. The Goethe-Institut Madrid supported SHORT SHOTS from the beginning as a strong cooperation partner. In this way, the intercultural exchange should be further strengthened. With EU funding, it was possible to invite two German directors to each event in Madrid, who could present their films there in person to an international audience.
