britspotting (British & Irish Film Festival) was a year both in Berlin and, in compressed form, in several other German cities held forming Film Festival with a clear focus on England , Ireland , Northern Ireland , Scotland and Wales .

history

Britspotting was founded as a "british independent film festival" in 2000 and has developed over time in cooperation with the British Council into Germany's most important festival with productions from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Since the focus has been on Irish filmmaking since 2004, britspotting now stands for “British and Irish Film Festival”.

Britspotting sees itself as an annual retrospective on filmmaking in Great Britain and Ireland and presents the German film public with young and often still unknown film talents, as well as productions by renowned directors such as Ken Loach , Danny Boyle , Michael Winterbottom and Shane Meadows . Britspotting is a registered association. The festival team consists of around 50 volunteers, some of whom work full-time in the film industry: movie theater directors, distributors, producers, freelance journalists, students, graphic artists, designers, technicians and night club operators.

Prices

The Britspotting jury includes film experts from Great Britain, Ireland, Germany and Switzerland. The short film award, however, is given by the audience. Directly after the performance, viewers can submit their ratings in the cinemas. Awards are given for “Best Feature Film”, “Best Documentary” and “Best Short”.

Other Events

The addition of web animations and music video clips to the festival program, for example, or the examination of digital cinema and VoD not only represent the other sides of the art direction "film", they also document the current innovative developments in film production. In order to do justice to the requirement of promoting young talent, britspotting organizes various film seminars every year, the target group of which is just as much “beginners” as “those with film experience”. There were seminars on film production, script writing, co-production opportunities with different countries and distribution and sales organization. In addition, according to the motto: “Stop Dreaming, Start Shooting”, ultra-short film competitions such as “48-hour-film-challenge” and “music video challenge” were announced.
