The Siebel Si 202 Hummel was a civil sport and training aircraft produced by the Siebel Flugzeugwerke .

History and construction

The aircraft was developed in 1938 by Friedrich Fecher on behalf of Siebel in order to spread aviation in Germany. The aircraft was therefore designed as an easy-to-fly, robust, cantilevered low- wing aircraft made of wood. The chassis was designed as a rigid normal chassis. The first flight of the D-ESFH took place on April 26, 1938 with Wolfgang Ziese as pilot. The aircraft was popular because of the very advanced design at the time and because of the side by side pilot seats with double controls in a closed cabin. The planned price was around 6000 Reichsmarks. Since the first Zündapp engines were a long time coming, the V1, V2 and V4 were equipped with Salmon engines and the V3 with a Walter Mikron in-line engine. Until the outbreak of war, three variants were produced, with only 38 of the planned 200 units being built until production was discontinued in May 1941. The machines were mainly used in the schools of the NSFK .
