The Walter Mikron is an air cooled gasoline - aircraft engine with Overhead valves . It has four hanging cylinders and was developed by the Prague company Walter in the 1930s . The crankshaft has five bearings.
Numerous light aircraft were equipped with the initially 37 kW (50 hp) engine. It had dry sump lubrication and was suitable for aerobatics . The engine was delivered in large numbers to England , France , Japan , Latvia , Poland , Belgium , the Netherlands , Java , Morocco , Sweden , Brazil , Germany , Italy and Yugoslavia . In France there was a license production at Angers .
The Walter Mikron II was an enlarged Mikron I from 1936 in the bore (88 mm) and thus in the displacement (2330 cm³) . Production was suspended during the Second World War . However, it was resumed after the end of the fighting until 1948, when the enlarged Mikron III went into production.
The Mikron III series is still approved as an aircraft engine and is sold in the USA by Moravia Inc. There is another version that has been upgraded to 58.8 kW (80 PS) (according to the manufacturer Parma Technik).
