The Seven Sorrows Madonna

The Madonna of Seven Pains dates from around 1863 . The statue of sandstone stands since April 8, 2002 under monument protection .

origin

The statue is located near the Fahrremise of Hof Köller in Rengering (Schirl 35a). It remains unclear whether it can be linked to the Rengering monastery . However, a similar wayside shrine was found on the Kammann farm in Freckenhorst, dating from 1863. Therefore one suspects the same workshop, which excludes the Rengering monastery. The wayside shrine has been owned by the Köller family since 1908. They had acquired the property from the Weil siblings, known as Vogt. Their ancestor, Moritz Vogt, acquired the main courtyard from the monastery property in 1837.

description

The sandstone relief is 66 cm high and surrounded by four linden trees, which completely cover it with their leaves in the summer months. It is a pictorial representation of the seven sorrows of the Mother of God Mary ( Mater Dolorosa ). The symbolic seven swords of suffering are placed as attributes behind the figure and do not hit the heart, as is usual. The head of Mary, surrounded by a halo, is inclined forward; her hands are placed crosswise on her chest. The picture is delimited at the top by a round arch. The outer end of the otherwise rectangular, 64 cm wide and 104 cm high relief runs like a gable into the top. A leaf motif is placed between the round and pointed arches, which shows the relationship with the wayside shrines from the second half of the 19th century.
