Sieve filter

A mesh filter is a filter that according to the principle of a screen works and entrained with the aid of mechanical solids from liquids deposited may be used. The simplest design of a sieve filter is z. B. used as a permanent coffee filter . Multi-stage filters are used, for example, in engine construction as fuel filters or oil filters .

Sieve filters consist of a close-meshed wire mesh (metal or plastic) or a perforated plate . They can only filter relatively coarse dirt and are therefore used as pre- or suction filters.

In the case of sieve disc filters , in order to save size or to improve the cleaning effect , several sieves are connected in series in one housing. Sieves of different sizes can be used; the finest comes at the end. At around 60  µm , the filter resistance is particularly small. The advantage of sieve filters is that they can be cleaned and reused after they have been removed.

In the case of the lamellar filter (depending on the design also known as plate, wire or canned filter), spacer disks are mounted between the sieve disks . A fixed comb fits into this 0.1 mm gap. If the shaft with the sieve disks fixed to it is rotated, the comb pushes the filtered material from the disks into a sludge chamber in order to clean the filter during operation. Such lamellar filters were used as oil filters in older engines.
