Siegbert Hahn (born May 22, 1937 in Breslau ) is a German painter .

biography

After graduating from high school, Hahn worked from 1957 to 1960 as an assistant for director and camera at the DEFA film company in East Berlin. During this time the first oil paintings were created. In 1960 he fled to West Berlin. A year later he moved to Cologne, where he studied art history from 1962 to 1966 and still lives today. He had his first solo exhibition in Paris in 1963. Eventually Siegbert Hahn gave up his studies in favor of painting and has been a freelance painter ever since. During his lifetime the painter and his friend Peter Guckel chose a final resting place in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne. The tombstone ("The bird with the stone") made of Aachen bluestone was designed with motifs from his work.

The focus of his artistic work, which comprises more than 600 works, is the examination of nature, its beauty and diversity in growth and decay, but also with its threat. Hahn's representational oil painting is realistic down to the smallest detail. The imaginary image content of puzzling fish and birds, wondrous trees and mysterious landscapes are in an exciting contrast. His paintings become symbols for the mystery of life and nature - in other words: images of his Natura mystica . His oeuvre can be grouped into the categories “water-fish-tree-bird”, “time-space-beginning”, “polarity transgression” and “still life”.
