Siegfried J. Assmann (born February 1, 1925 in Kirchplatz , Province of Posen ) is a German painter and sculptor who has particularly distinguished himself in the field of glass painting . Siegfried Assmann lives and works in Großhansdorf near Hamburg.

Life

Assmann studied painting, wall design and graphics at the State Art School in Hamburg from 1947 , together with fellow students such as Horst Janssen , Paul Wunderlich and Siegfried Oelke . He learned sculptural design in Carolus Voigt's studio , and during a stay in Überlingen on Lake Constance, he learned how to work with colored glass. In 1952 Assmann had his first great success when he won a public competition to design a leaded glass window in the Kreuzkirche in Hamburg-Ottensen. After this breakthrough, Assmann received numerous other commissions, especially in northern Germany, which were not limited to sacred topics, although these remained a focus of his work. In the early 1960s, his activities increasingly shifted to the field of plastic. He created the figure group Charon for the memorial in Gudendorf / Dithmarschen , which was inaugurated in 1962, for example the sculpture of the flower girl Eliza and the roof rider Two fighting cocks in Hamburg-Volksdorf as part of “ Art in Public Space ” .
