Siegfried Heinimann
Siegfried Heinimann (born April 13, 1917 in Olten ; † June 15, 1996 in Bern ) was a Swiss Romance philologist .
life and work
Heinimann studied with Karl Jaberg in Bern, and also in Geneva, Florence, Rome and Paris. From 1941 to 1946 he was a high school teacher in Biel . He received his doctorate in Bern in 1944 on the borrowing of words and meanings by the Italian daily press during the First World War , 1914-1919 (Bern 1946) and was Professor of Romance Philology at the University of Bern from 1946 to 1982 (full professor from 1950, dean from 1949-1950) . Ricarda Liver was his successor at the Bernese Romance Seminar.
Heinimann worked from 1964 on the Thesaurus proverbiorum medii aevi founded by Samuel Singer . Lexicon of proverbs of the Romano-Germanic Middle Ages and, as President of the Singer Board of Trustees of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, from 1965 to 1987 played a major role in the posthumous creation of the 14-volume edition (Berlin 1995–2002).
