Victory point

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Victory points or winning points are a game element often used in author games. In classic board games , the aim of the game is usually to reach a certain position; this includes mate situations , building dilemmas , reaching a target field or generating a certain amount of play money . In contrast to this, victory points form an abstract unit, which are awarded in the course of the game for fulfilling intermediate goals. Depending on the game, the winner is whoever has achieved the most victory points after a fixed number of game rounds or whoever was able to earn a certain number of points first.

This concept has two major advantages. Firstly, it allows the player a wider range of game strategies, since victory points can also be collected with a specialization in a part of the game. Second, in contrast to play money, victory points are not an advantage during the game as they cannot be spent and reinvested. Thus, the tension curve is kept better during the game by the victory point concept , since the leading player has no further benefit due to his victory point advantage and is therefore easier to catch up with.

Depending on the background story to be played, terms such as fame , power or influence points are used instead of victory points , whereby the underlying concept is the same.
