Thurn und Taxis is a board game that was voted Game of the Year in 2006 . The game authors are the married couple Karen and Andreas Seyfarth , it was developed by Hans im Glück Verlag and is distributed in Germany by Schmidt Spiele . It can be played by two to four players aged ten and over.

Thurn und Taxis is a game that is historically based on the structure of the postal system by the real Thurn and Taxis family . The aim of the game is to build up a stagecoach operation with long and profitable routes in the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation of the 17th century . It is above all a tactical game, whereby the success of the game depends to a certain extent on luck.

Game material

  • 01 game board
  • 80 houses
  • 04 color cards
  • 20 carriage tickets
  • 66 city maps
  • 30 bonus markers
  • 04 short rules in German and English

game

The goal is to get victory points . These can be influenced by many different factors:

  • Stagecoaches that can be earned with the length of the routes.
  • Bonus points that you get z. B. gets when you reach a certain distance or occupy all cities in a country.
  • Points are deducted if you could not use all post stations.

In each round you have to take a city card from a selection of six on display, lay out one from your hand and use it to build or expand a route. A train can be varied by using one of four officials. Either the player can

  • take two instead of one city card (postmaster) or
  • add two city maps to the route instead of one (postillion) or
  • exchange all six city cards on display with cards from the deck (bailiff) or
  • get stagecoaches faster (Wagner).

If a route includes at least three cities, this can be completed by placing post stations. The player has the choice between

  • all cities in a single region on its route or
  • a single city per region, with supra-regional routes.

When a player has placed all of his postal stations or acquired the seventh level stagecoach, the round is played to the end. Then the final scoring takes place.

Extensions

The princess's courier

The expansion Der Kurier der Fürstin was published exclusively in the magazine spielbox , issue 5/2006 . This consists of a figure and letters of nobility, which allow additional support from officials.

pomp and circumstance

The first official expansion, Glanz und Gloria , has been available since January 29, 2007. In terms of content, this expansion is an independent game with a modified game mechanism. It has a completely new game board that shows northern Germany and a completely new set of cards. However, the post houses that have to be removed from the basic game are missing.

All roads lead to Rome

The second official expansion All Roads Lead to Rome , published in 2008 , contains 2 new variants:

  • In The Audience , the clergy set out to use the new means of travel for an audience with the Pope. The players send their clergy on their way to Rome in five wooden carriages. They try to steer the carriages so that they arrive at the most convenient time possible. Sometimes there are long distances, sometimes short, and only those who use tactics are admitted to the Pope. In addition to the wooden carriages, the material includes audience tiles and a new game board.
  • In In Office and Dignity, new office tiles, overview boards and victory points are added to the basic game as material.
