Gameplay

Each player initially receives eight cards, the remaining cards form the draw pile . The players take turns placing one of their cards in front of them and moving one of their pawns on the path of the corresponding color or discarding it if it is not possible or does not seem worthwhile to them. The players build a separate pile for each color. For your own cards, these must either be ascending, descending or of the same value. Once an ascending row has been formed, only a higher or equivalent card may be added in the further course. In descending rows, only an equivalent or lower card may be placed.

Depending on which space the pawn is moved to, different actions are performed:

  • If a character is drawn on a scoring cards, the player immediately points on the Kramer bar be registered by advancing his Zählsteines.
  • If a pawn is drawn onto a clover leaf, there is the option of moving another or the same stone.
  • If a pawn is moved onto a wish piece, this wish piece is taken by the player and earns him points at the end of the game.

Then the player either takes a new card from the face-down pile or a card from one of the discard piles.

The game ends when either the last card has been taken from the draw pile or five pawns have reached the outer area where they count at least six points. Then the value of the game pieces is determined. This can be between −4 and +10 for the small figures, the value is doubled for the large figures. Pieces that have not been placed on a stone path receive the value zero. In addition, the players receive points for their wish stones. All points are noted on the Kramer track. The winner is the player who has advanced the furthest on the Kramer track. If there is a tie there are multiple winners.

Keltis is based on the pure two-person game Lost Cities , which was published in 1999 by the same publisher.

In 2010 Keltis - Das Orakel was released, another independently playable version of Keltis. The basic principle of the original variant was retained, but added new tactical options. For example, it is now possible for the first time to reset game pieces.
