Johann Schwarzer (born August 30, 1880 in Jauernig , Austrian Silesia ; † October 10, 1914 in World War I ) was an Austrian photographer , film director and producer and founder of the first Austrian film production company, Saturn-Film . For this one-man company, which was founded in 1906, he produced 52 erotic short films until the forced closure in 1910.

Life

Schwarzer moved to Vienna , where he learned the profession of photographer and chemist . In 1906 he opened a photo studio, where he made nudes in addition to portraits and family photographs , some of them as glass slides for showmen . Since film recordings of scantily clad women were still in great demand, in the same year he decided to produce "men's evening films" , one of the common names for erotic short films , in addition to his photography work . His films are among the first non-private Austrian film productions . For this purpose he invented the brand " Saturn-Film ", under whose name his films were distributed from now on. He went public for the first time with a large, one-page-wide advertisement in a film magazine on November 3, 1906.

In terms of the freedom of movement of the recordings, his films are between the "light fare" of the large film companies, above all the Pathé Frères , where the actresses were mostly still lightly clothed, and those recordings of smaller companies or individuals that often go into pornography and are often anonymous circulated and were resold.

Johann Schwarzer died on October 10, 1914 in one of the first battles of the First World War as a reserve lieutenant.
