history

The series was ordered by Organismos Sidirodromon Ellados , the national railway company of Greece, for their standard-gauge and electrified routes. The OSE's specifications required a lightweight construction of 80 tonnes (around 88 tonnes was common at that time).

The locomotives were manufactured by Siemens on the basis of the Siemens ES64P . Between 1996 and 2005, a total of 30 locomotives were built in two series. The first series comprised six vehicles, which were put into service between 1996 and 1997 and were initially designated as H 561-566. The second series comprised 24 vehicles, which were commissioned between 2004 and 2005 and which were numbered 120 007-030 according to the new designation scheme. The locomotives are used within Greece before freight and passenger trains.
