Bolivar Venezuela's highest mountain

The Sierra Nevada de Mérida (commonly known as Sierra de Mérida ) is a mountain range of the Andes that crosses the western part of Venezuela, specifically the states of Lara , Apure , Barinas , Mérida , Táchira and Trujillo . Within the mountain range are important peaks such as the Bolivar Summit , Pico Bonpland and Pico Humboldt , the highest in the country and located in the state of Mérida.

Until 1910 the area had a glacier extension of approx. 10 km². Global warming has had a major impact on the glacier, so that in 2018 less than 0.1 square kilometers remained.
