Sietske (sometimes also Sytske ) is a female given name and comes from Frisian . It is a subsidiary form of "Siet". The exact meaning is unclear, but it is believed that the word was originally derived from Germanic and means " victory ". According to other theories, the name was derived from the old Frisian "side" ( custom ) or "sîth" (companion).

This name appears mostly in Friesland , but more rarely in the rest of the Netherlands and Belgium . Prominent name bearer is the eponymous Sietske . The male form is "Sietse". Except in Friesland , this convention is not always known. Sietskes are usually addressed in written correspondence with "Mr."
