The Sigismund Church in Kędzierzyn-Koźle is a Roman Catholic parish church on the northern edge of the old town of the Koźle district . It has a reddish brick facade and is designed in the Gothic style and is dedicated to St. Sigismund and St. Hedwig of Silesia.

history

The parish church of St. Sigismund was first mentioned in a document in 1293. At the beginning of the 14th century, the Marienkapelle was added to the south side. The chapel was consecrated in 1323. In 1454 the church burned down except for the Marienkapelle. The altar of the Marienkapelle contains the Gothic miraculous image of the so-called Coseler Madonna, created around 1420. At the time of the Reformation, the reconstruction was suspended.

Baron Johann von Oppersdorf had a new nave built on the foundations around 1570 and enlarged the church. In addition, the church tower was added.

Around 1688 Hedwig von Schlesien also became patroness of the church. In 1807 it was damaged by Napoleonic troops. In the second half of the 19th century, it was renovated in the neo-Gothic style. In 1929 a new organ was installed. In the 1930s the church received new altars. The main altar consisted of eight fields with scenes from the Old and New Testaments. In 1996 the interior was renovated again.
