Sigma Tauri

Sigma Tauri (astr. Short name σ Tau or 92 Tauri) is a 5th magnitude star in Taurus (Taurus, northern zodiac) and stands on the eastern edge of the V-shaped star cluster of the Hyades . It is located almost 1 ° southeast of the reddish giant star Aldebaran (α Tauri), which is far behind the star cluster .

σ Tauri is a wide double star that can be recognized with the naked eye . Its components σ¹ and σ² have an angular distance of 430 "(0.12 °) and brightnesses of 4.8 and 5.1 mag, respectively.

The double star is suitable as an eye tester , similar to the slightly lighter Theta Tauri with a 337 "angle difference, which is a few degrees away .
