Sigmund the Elder

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sigmund the Elder ( 10th century , Stóra Dímun , Faroe Islands ) was the brother of Torbjørn Gøtuskegg and at the same time the father of Brestir and Beinir .

His grandson Sigmundur Brestisson (son of Brestir) appeared as one of the key figures in history in the Faroe Islands during the Viking Age when he Christianized the inhabitants. His nephew Tróndur í Gøtu (son of Torbjørn), however, was Sigmundur Brestisson's worst adversary.
