Signal man

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The signalman or line guide is a helper on land when rescue or rescue divers are deployed in rescue organizations . The signal man makes with the diver and the diver safety the immersion Rupp , its task is to guide the diver by means of line signals.

commitment

In the diving operations of aid organizations (including water rescue service , DLRG , ÖWR , fire brigade , disaster control , water police , THW or coast guard ), it is important for the safety of the diver and for a coordinated underwater search that the diver can communicate with the signalman standing on land to be able to carry out a certain search pattern or to be made aware of dangers. The communication takes place by means of standardized linen material, which holds the signal man always in his hands, by Zugzeichen. Both the diver and the signal man can show directions, report found objects and give signals to cancel. Modern full face masks also allow the use of a wire radio device through which instructions can be given.

Line pull mark

The following line pull marks are taken from appendix 5 of DGUV rule GUV-R 2102 and appendix 2 of fire service regulation 8.

character Given by the diver Given by the signalman
x Distress signal
I'm in need!
Distress
emergency emersion! / Immediate dive abort!
xx - To the left!
xxx - To the right!
xxxx I'm diving out! Diving out!
xxxxx Everything OK! Everything OK?

X means: a line pull. Further line pull marks can be agreed between the diver and the signalman.

education

In Germany, the signalman's training is regulated, among other things, in the GUV rule “Diving with light diving equipment in aid companies” and in the service regulations of various aid organizations. Regulations of individual aid organizations (e.g. the DLRG examination regulations P6, the fire service regulation 8 and the THW service regulation 8) refer to it.

After that, anyone who is at least 18 years old, has no limiting illnesses and has successfully completed a theoretical and practical training amounting to 20 hours with an examination can be used as a signalman. The subjects of training are in theory equipment knowledge, work knowledge and medical knowledge as well as knowledge of regulations, in practice "dressing the diver and assessing the completeness of the equipment", "guiding the diver while underwater" and "rescuing an injured diver and initiating assistance".
