Signy (bulges)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Signy is a mythological figure from the Nordic legends ( Edda ), daughter of Wölsung , twin sister of Sigmund , mother of his son Sinfiötli , who was conceived in incest , wife of Siggeir King of Gautland, who slew her father and nine of her brothers.

Signy had reluctantly married the Siggeir, as her family, the Wölsungen , had agreed to do so. There was already a quarrel at the wedding reception, and her newly wedded husband drove home early, angry and contemplating revenge. He invited the family to a feast three months later, during which he slew all but Sigmund. He was saved by his sister and seduced in the form of a pretty young Völva . This seduction gave birth to their son. Signy had four other sons from her husband, but over time they were all murdered by Sigmund. Ultimately, Siggeir was killed by Sinfiötli and Sigmund, where they set fire to his hall, in which Signy also burned.
