Sigurður Einarsson (economist)

Sigurður Einarsson (born September 19, 1960 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic economist , entrepreneur and was the head of the board of the Icelandic Kaupthing Bank .

Life

Einarsson is the son of Einar Ágústsson and his wife Þórunn Sigurðardóttir. He graduated in Economics from the University of Copenhagen in 1987. From 1982 to 1988 he was with Den Danske Bank and Industrial Bank until he joined Íslandsbanki until 1994. He taught at the University of Iceland from 1993 to 1997 and served on the board of the Icelandic Stock Exchange (ICEX). In 1994 he came to Kaupthing and became its CEO and Chairman of the Supervisory Board until 2008. He is wanted by Interpol on suspicion of counterfeiting.
