Sihon ( Hebrew סיחון) was an Amorite king named in the 5 books of Moses in Hesbon , to whom the Israelites sent messengers on their arrival in the East Bank with the request to be allowed to travel through his country. Sihon refused to allow passage and advanced towards them with his force. However, he was defeated by the Israelites at Jahza . Israel took possession of its land from the Arnon to the Jabbok and settled in the cities. The land of Sihon was given to Reuben and Gad (Numbers 32:33).
