Boris Smiljanić (born September 28, 1976 in Baden AG in Switzerland ) is a former Croatian- Swiss football player and today's coach . In August 2017 he became the successor to Murat Yakin , head coach of FC Schaffhausen in the Challenge League .

Career

The 1.90 meter tall defender has played for Grasshopper Club Zurich for ten years since 1993 and switched to FC Basel on January 20, 2003 . In June 2007 he terminated his contract with FC Basel and after four years returned to the Grasshopper Club Zurich, where he held the position of captain until his resignation in summer 2012.

His greatest successes were winning the Swiss championship with Grasshoppers and FC Basel in 1995, 1996, 1998, 2001, 2004 and 2005 as well as winning the cup with these two clubs in 1994, 2003 and 2007. His He played his first international game in 1999. He was then no longer invited to the national team until national coach Köbi Kuhn appointed him again in August 2005.
