Siissisoq (Eng. Rhino ) is a rock / metal band from Uummannaq , Greenland . It was founded in 1998.
history
In 1998 Siissisoq released their first album Aammarpassuillu . It tells stories about African animals.
The idea for this album came to guitarist Karl Enok Mathiassen on a trip through Africa. When he came back to northern Greenland, he wrote nine songs in Kalaallisut , all of which were named after animals. The album's success in Greenland was immense: it stayed at the top of the top 20 for two months and sold over 3,000 times - with a population of 50,000. Outside of their home country, they became known through a compilation called Rock from the Cold Seas , which unites bands from Iceland , the Faroe Islands , Lapland and Greenland.
In 1999 the band toured Iceland and Denmark .
In 2001 a live album was released with the same title as the debut album.
