Silver bronze (lacquer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silver bronze is a traditional name for a paint with a metal pigment ( phlegmatized aluminum - flakes or powder), which is used for decorative and / or anti-corrosion coatings. As a result of the metal pigment, such lacquers have very high opacity, so that very thin layers are sufficient for an opaque lacquer. Shell silver is also used for this in monument restoration .

For use at higher temperatures, e.g. B. on stoves, heating systems and pipes, exhausts and engine parts, silicone resin is used as a binder . Such products must first be baked after drying in order to maintain their optimal properties. The silicone resin withstands permanent temperatures of approx. 200 ° C without decomposing. At higher temperatures it is broken down oxidatively; What remains is a silicon dioxide matrix in which the aluminum pigment remains embedded. Such coatings can therefore withstand temperatures well above the decomposition temperature of the silicone resin, possibly up to 650 ° C.
