Silberhütte Anhalt

The Silberhütte Anhalt was a mining facility between the Selkemühle and Falkenstein Castle in the Harz Mountains . It was located below the Kleiner Hausberg, not far from Anhalt Castle , on the Selke . The exact location of the hut can still be seen today through a slag dump in the area.

The hut belonged to the church village of Anhalt, which became deserted by 1430 at the latest . This silver smelter was in operation by 1468 at the latest. It initially belonged to representatives of the von Benzingerode family , who were enfeoffed by the Princes of Anhalt. At the beginning of the 17th century this hut came to a standstill and fell into disrepair.
