Silencer
In biology, silencers refer to sections of genetic information that are located on the DNA in the so-called promoter before or after the actual gene that encodes the corresponding protein . They belong to the cis elements . Together with transcription factors , they reduce the transcription activity of a gene . Their mechanism of action corresponds to that of the enhancer , but with the opposite result.
