Age 250 to 300 years

The Silkebuche (also called Buche Silke ) is a natural tree monument on the edge of the Schorfheide near Groß Schönebeck , east of the Pinnowseen. The age of the European beech is estimated to be 250 to 300 years. Its trunk circumference at a height of 1.5 meters is around 6.5 meters, and its height is more than 20 meters.

Legend and literary appreciation

According to legend, the beech bears the name of a forester's wife. A forester had forgotten his wife Silke's 30th birthday and, full of remorse, wanted to hang himself from the tree, which was already large at the time. However, a little man in the forest advised him to give the tree to his wife instead and sent him home with the requirement to come back with her. After the forester had returned with his Silke, they found a birthday table richly set by the little man under the tree. In literary terms , the beech was also described in a Schorfheidemärchen by the artist Petra Elsner.

Location and surroundings

The Silkebuche is about 6.5 kilometers as the crow flies east-northeast of Groß Schönebeck and about 3 km west-northwest of the Hubertusstock hunting lodge . It is located in the Eichheide Revier, department 144, near the corner of 143, 149 and 150. It can be reached via a marked hiking trail that runs from Groß Schönebeck on the headland between the two Pinnow lakes and then leads east into hilly terrain.
