Silvio Warsönke (born August 2, 1967 in Finsterwalde ) is a former track and field athlete who competed for the German Democratic Republic (GDR). In 1988 he became East German javelin champion .

Life

The trained electrician finished eighth in the GDR championships in 1987. On May 29, 1988 he threw a new GDR record in Rostock with 84.14 m and exceeded Detlef Michel's old record by 62 centimeters. At the end of June at the GDR championships, which also took place in Rostock, he won the title with 82.64 m ahead of Gerald Weiß . Warsönke, Weiß and Michel were nominated for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Warsönke missed the mark of 79 meters in qualifying and was eliminated in 15th place with 78.22 m. In September 1989 Warsönke was replaced as GDR record holder by Volker Hadwich , who set up the last GDR record in the javelin throw with 84.84 m. At the last GDR championships in 1990, Warsönke took fourth place again.

Silvio Warsönke competed for SC Cottbus . With a height of 1.97 m, his competition weight was 105 kg.
