Simon Herrmann

Simon Herrmann (born April 4, 1985 in Bruchsal ) is a German water skier .

Even during his school days at the IGS-Fürstenau and the BBS-Bersenbrück, he attracted attention as a young athlete with numerous national and international successes. As early as 1998 - at the age of 13 - he was appointed to the youth national team of the German Water Ski Association and competed in his first international competition in Cany (France), where he immediately took fourth place.

Herrmann has been active in national and international competitions for Germany since 1998. He is a multiple German champion and European champion in water ski slalom. In 2008 Herrmann won the world title in slalom in London . 2011 - his most successful season to date - was crowned by Simon Herrmann at the European Championships in Antalya, Turkey with a fabulous world record in waterskiing slalom (2 buoys on the 9.50 meter line) and winning another European championship. The now 27-year-old received special recognition in December 2011, when he was elected world water skier by the International Water Ski Association.

In Germany, water skiing is still considered a fringe sport. All the more surprising was his nomination for the election of Sportsman of the Year of the State of Lower Saxony in 2008. Not least thanks to the support of the community of Fürstenau and his former school, he came second and was able to beat well-known sports greats such as Olympic champion Andreas Dibowski (eventing) and the footballer of VfL Wolfsburg Place Marcel Schäfer .

In 2003, 2004 and 2008 Herrmann was voted Germany's water skier of the year and he was given a very special honor in 2004, when he was allowed to enter the Golden Book of the city of Fürstenau during a ceremony . In 2010, due to its international success, it was accepted into the honor portal of the Lower Saxony Institute for Sports History .
