Simon de Beauchamp (nobleman, † 1136/7)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simon de Beauchamp (also Simon I de Beauchamp ) († 1136 or 1137) was an Anglo-Norman nobleman and courtier.

Simon de Beauchamp came from the Beauchamp family in Bedfordshire . He was probably the eldest son of Hugh de Beauchamp and his wife Matilda . After his father's death in 1118, he inherited the Honor of Eaton . He is considered a patron of St Albans Abbey. After the death of King Henry I , he supported the succession of Stephen , whom he served as royal steward in March or April 1136 . In this capacity he testified that the King had recognized the Charter of Liberties . However, he died in 1137 at the latest. After his death, his daughter, whose name has not been passed down, inherited the Honor of Bedford and Bedford Castle . She was married around Christmas 1137 to Hugh Poer , who was made Earl of Bedford by King Stephen . As a result of this line of succession, Miles and Payn , the sons of Simon's brother Robert, felt they had been passed over and their inheritance had been deprived.
