Simone Heilgendorff

Simone Heilgendorff (* 1961 in Opladen ) is a German musicologist , violist , dramaturge and curator .

Life

Heilgendorff studied musicology, philosophy and psychology (Dr. phil. 1999, Humboldt University Berlin ) and viola (Master of Music 1991, University of Michigan in Ann Arbor / USA) in Freiburg im Breisgau (Germany), Zurich (Switzerland), Ann Arbor (USA) and in Berlin (Germany). In June 2019 she completed her habilitation in musicology at the University of Salzburg. Since 1993 she has held positions at colleges and universities, including from 2007 to 2013 a university professorship for applied musicology at the University of Klagenfurt (Austria). From 2013 to 2016 she was director of the international research project "New Music Festivals as Agorai - Their Formation and Impact on Warsaw Autumn, Festival d'Automne (Paris), and Wien Modern after 1980" (University of Salzburg, Austria), funded by the FWF . From autumn 2014 to autumn 2019 she was the head of the “ConTempOhr. Mediation of contemporary music ”at the focus on science and art at the University of Salzburg and the University Mozarteum Salzburg (Austria).

Heilgendorff teaches at the University of Salzburg (Department of Music and Dance Studies) and the University of the Arts Berlin (Sound Studies and Sound Art).

Heilgendorff is a violist and, together with the cellist Claudius von Wrochem, a founding member and co-managing director of the Kairos Quartet (string quartet, Berlin), which specializes in contemporary (art) music and performs worldwide and mediates contemporary music. As a musician, she is particularly interested in chamber music, historicizing performance practice of baroque music and contemporary (art) music. She majored in viola with Christoph Schiller, Enrique Santiago, Emil Cantor and Yizhak Schotten.

Her work focuses on contemporary (art) music and baroque music , on cultural and cultural-psychological contexts of music, on Americana around John Cage , on musical analysis as well as musical performance practice and culture of interpretation. Artistic-scientific research is also becoming increasingly relevant for her work.
